Town Hall Arts Center’s excellent production
is directed by Bob Wells, which guarantees that the laugh meter is on overdrive
throughout. In a curtain speech at the top of the show maestro Wells described
the show as “Sesame Street on Viagra.”
... And there
will be onstage sex albeit by means of puppet genitalia of the fabric variety.
Cory Gilstrap of Imagined Creations is the genius who created these gloriously colorful puppets.
The very
talented cast includes: Anna High, Leslie Randle, Mark Shonsey, Arlene Rapal, Carolyn Lohr,
TJ Hogle, Patrick Brownson and Charlie Schmidt.
The Divine Donna Kolpan Debreceni (on keyboards) is the music director. Together with Scott Alan Smith on bass/guitars/banjo and Larry Ziehl on drums, the sound of the onstage band rocks.
Some of the
songs reflecting the angst of the characters living on "Avenue Q" are:
“Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist,” “If You Were Gay,” and “What Do You Do with a
B.A. in English?”
With music
and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, Jeff Whitty’s book gives us a
neighborhood full of youngsters who are struggling to rise above the limitations of living in the hood.
The
intimate playing space of Town Hall Arts Center is perfect for engaging
theatregoers in the most uproarious hilarity they may experience this season.
"Avenue Q" is for mature audiences only and has an R
rating for language, mature themes and strong sexual content.
