Whether you see Vintage Theatre's production of the regional premier of "Fireflies," in person or watch Ray Bailey's excellent video of the show in the comfort of your own home, you'll be glad you did.

Starring Deborah Persoff and Verl Hite, this tale of Eleanor Bannister, a retired Texas school teacher, and Abel Brown, a smooth talking drifter, charms.

Directed by Bernie Cardell, Matthew Barber's play explores the emotional challenges of love arriving in later life.

Cardell elicits superb performances from one and all in this four-person cast.

Verl Hite's strong portrayal of Abel Brown pairs perfectly with Deborah Persoff's luminous performance as Eleanor Bannister. Mary Campbell is hilarious in the role of Grace, Eleanor's busy-body neighbor.  As the local cop and Eleanor's former student,Eugene,Brandon Billings is a complete delight.

Matthew S. Crane's scenic design is outstanding.  Sound designer Rick Reid's musical choices bridge the scenes perfectly.

Written by the playwright who gave us "Enchanted April," and based upon Eleanor Sanford's novel, "Eleanor and Abel," this is a gentle, heart-opening tonic for which we can all be grateful in these difficult times.

Do yourself a favor and see this poignant production of "Fireflies."
