Fiddler on the Roof
BDT Stage: through February 28

In the hands of a capable director some musicals age like fine wine. That’s the case with the current production of “Fiddler on the Roof” at the BDT Stage.
Director Michael Duran has done a masterful job in giving us this great classic in a glorious production that is truly one of the best of the season.
Upon entering the theatre one is regaled with a breathtaking scenic design with realistic trees and a fragmentary roof.
Wayne Kennedy inhabits the role of Tevye with thunderous brio.
If Kennedy’s performance as Tevye was phenomenal several seasons ago –and it was! – this time around it will rock your world. The tenderness with which this artist imbues Tevye’s relationships with his wife and daughters is very poignant.
BDT Stage favorite Shelley Cox-Robie returns to this venue in the role of Tevye’s wife, Golde after being absent WAY too long! Joanie Brosseau is an enchanting incarnation of Grandma Tzeitel in “Tevye’s Dream.” Scott Beyette delivers a remarkably authentic Lazer Wolfe. Barb Reeves delights as Yente, the Matchmaker. Brian Burron turns in a very fine performance as the Rabbi.
Matt La Fontaine rattles the rafters with his interpretation of the Cossack vocal that interrupts Tevye’s drinks with Lazar Wolfe in “To Life.” Amanda Earls is a fiery Fruma-Sarah. Brett Ambler does fine work as Motel, the tailor as we watch his growth from bashful suitor to responsible husband.
Neal Dunfee’s music direction is about as good as it gets.

No matter how many times you’ve seen this show you must put this production at the top of your list.
